Your Eye Examination

We know it’s important to be thorough. That’s why we offer state-of the-art computer assisted eye health and vision examinations that will uncover hidden, symptomless, potentially threatening eye disorders and diseases that are not found by a simple vision screening.

Medical History…
Since the eyes are a part of the body, they can be affected by seemingly unrelated health conditions. We must know about your general health and any medications.

Occupation and Hobbies…
We will want to know your specific occupation and recreational vision requirements so we can determine the lens options that are best for your individual needs.

Optomap® retinal image
The optomap® retinal image gives the optometrist a much larger view (200 degrees) of the back of the eye – the retina – than conventional eye exam equipment. The digital picture or image can be taken without dilating the pupils, which is a very common procedure that can be inconvenient for many patients.  The optomap® image is displayed immediately and allows the optometrist to review it quickly and if necessary, send the digital image to a retinal specialist for to expedite a referral.

Neurological/Binocular Screenings…
Evaluating the way your eye and pupils work together can tell us if the nerves and muscles controlling your eyes are working properly or require more investigation. This is an often over-looked reason for reading difficulty in children.

The Refraction…
Patients sometimes express concern that they might give incorrect responses to questions asked by the doctor during their eye examination. You need not have that concern in our office, we have computerized instruments that help determine the proper prescription without your responses. We also verify your responses in several ways to make certain the lenses prescribed provide the clearest and most comfortable vision for all you needs.

Computerized Visual Testing…
The Visual field is the total area you see at one time, including both your central and peripheral vision. Many eye and general diseases (such as brain tumors, vascular problems, glaucoma, optic nerve diseases and macular degeneration) show visual field defects as an early sign.

Eye Health Testing…
We will inspect the external and internal parts of your eyes with special instruments, carefully studying the interior of the eyes for cataracts, glaucoma and other diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Consultation…
All patients will be provided with an explanation of the findings, their significance, the treatment plan and other options. Your questions will be answered and the solutions to any difficulties will be reviewed.
